Shoulder Arthroscopy

Diagnosis begins with a clinical examination to assess shoulder movement, strength, and the location of pain. The doctor may also recommend imaging tests such as X-rays, ultrasound, or MRI to identify the underlying condition.

Treatment depends on the specific problem and its severity. Non-surgical treatment may include:

• Rest and activity modification.

• Physical therapy.

• Pain-relieving or anti-inflammatory medications when appropriate.

• Therapeutic injections in selected cases.

If symptoms persist despite conservative treatment or the shoulder has an injury requiring surgical intervention, Shoulder Arthroscopy may be recommended.

During the procedure, the arthroscope is inserted through a small incision to visualize the joint. Specialized instruments are then used to repair or remove damaged tissue depending on the condition. The procedure can be used to repair rotator cuff or labral tears, remove inflamed tissue, or treat certain causes of shoulder impingement.

Recovery is generally less extensive than with some open shoulder procedures, but the recovery period varies depending on the condition treated and the type of arthroscopic procedure performed. A structured physical therapy and rehabilitation program may be recommended to gradually restore shoulder movement and strength.
